Reflecting on Water

Bismillaah

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen

Water is something interesting to think about, and looking at it, one can learn many things. Ever see how when you want to pour water into any container it will fit that container? It can be a triangle container, a circle container, a rectangular container, or any shape out there. . It can fit into the largest container and it can fit in to the most narrow container.  It will manage to fit into it any circumstance we put it into. And it'll find no problem. Can you imagine trying to pour water into a container but it tells you, "No. I dont want to fit into it, Bring me another container?" Never. It being water, it will be subservient to us. If we want it there and it will adjust accordingly. What we learn from this?

The way water can adjust itself to suit any circumstance, we should also adjust ourselves in the same way in our lives to the best of our abilities. Things come up all the time. One day your short of cash, another day you have nothing. Somedays you go to bed full, other times not. Regardless of any tight circumstance, we must accept the situation as is. And not try to make the aim fixing the problem, but rather being patient with it. Because no matter how many problems you fix, another will find you. You can try to change the circumstances, but your best off changing yourself to deal with it.

Also, do you see how it obeys our commands? Fit into glass. Done. Fit into porcelain. Done. Fit into china. Done. Fit into anything. You got it. It would bend over backwards for us. Without a fuss it obeys our every command. In nature its submissive to its master. Similarly how it is devoted to serving us for our pleasure, we should be devoted to serving Allah for his pleasure. Whatever we are commanded to do should be we hear and we obey.

Another interesting property of water is that it has one of the highest heat capacities. Hmm.. Interesting. Heat capacity refers to how much energy or heat an object can take before it changes temperature. And that's just by one degree. Ever see on the hottest of days the lakes are still nice and cold? When were all dying out there, the water is just sitting there all refreshed and totally not affected by the burning sun, or warm wind? Its gonna need more heat than that to change its temperature.

Us people can learn alot from that. How much does it take for us to tick? Some of us its a split second and we're off. But what water teaches us is forbearance. To handle the toughest of situations with a cool and collected attitude. To handle difficulties without becoming affected. We need to endure those stressful moments and remain patient. Endure. Endure. Endure. If anything's gonna affect us, it better be something huge. And even if it affects us, it should affect us only a little. Water can take a lot of energy and even then its properties don't change. It still remain refreshing and cool.

Another interesting thing we can learn from water is its property of cohesion. The hydrogen bonds are responsible for this property. Cohesion refers to how well the molecules can stick tightly together. Since water is composed of hydrogen bonds, a strong surface tension is formed in the water. So much so that insects can walk on water! It forms an solid surface.

The surface tension is strong because these hydrogen bonds continually interact with one another that the water forms like a solid structure. Theres an adhesiveness between the molecules which is an attraction of one substance to another. What we learn from this as Muslims especially is that the same way water molecules can become cohesive and come together to form a strong solid structure of strength, we Muslims can also form a solid concrete structure if we remain together, and continue interacting with one another and continue showing love for each other. That way we can be strong  and even be a source of support for others. As individuals we are weak but as a group we are unstoppable. If we let go of our differences, and remove the barriers of the sects that divide us we can from a strong  cemented structure and be of those that Allah loves.

Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly.
